30 Days of Marvel Meme: Day 1

Day #1: Your favorite character
I can’t believe you’re doing this to me. I am offended and refuse to choose only one. Instead you get my current top three from the two main teams I read.

From X-Men:
1. Dr. Hank McCoy (Beast): Intelligent, eloquent, compassionate, good-humored, and he just makes me want to hug him. Hank McCoy is far and above my favorite of all the X-Men and has been since I was a kid. I want to be his best friend.

2. Remy LeBeau (Gambit): Gambit gave me unrealistic expectations about men from an early age. He’s just so goddamn charming, and I am still not quite over my dire youthful crush on him.

3. Sooraya Qadir (Dust): Dust gets no love because she’s shy and quiet and usually written in the background, but she is wonderful. She’s kind and secure in her faith and personal convictions and wants to do right and forms lovely friendships with the other New X-Men. She’s fierce in a fight when it comes to it, but she’s gentle at heart. Also, it’s lovely to see a Muslim girl getting to be one of the hero characters for a change.

From Avengers:
1. Kate Bishop (Hawkeye II): She narrowly edges out Tony because I want to be her when I grow up, okay, even though she’s younger than me. Kate basically saves the Young Avengers’ collective ass during the hostage situation, then bulls her way on to the team by sheer force of personality and subsequently sasses Captain America. She uses her privilege to do good and overcomes trauma to become a hero. Marry me, Kate Bishop.

2. Tony Stark (Iron Man): Ffff I have so many Tony ~feelings~. He’s a very flawed character, but realistic and interesting and in a constant battle to overcome his faults and be better. Lots of heroes are essentially great people by nature, but Tony works to try and achieve that ideal even if he never quite reaches it. He’s damaged and imperfect but he’s also charming and will do anything for the people he loves and sacrifices himself often. I love Tony.

3. Clint Barton (Hawkeye): He’s just so sassy and snarky, gah. Also I love him mentoring Kate. The movie better do him justice.
